Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 September 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Luminality journaling app and related services (the “Service”), provided by LUMINALITY PTE. LTD., a company registered in Singapore (“Luminality”, “we”, “us”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
Not a crisis service
Luminality is not an emergency or crisis service, and no one is monitoring your entries for signs that you need help.
If you are in crisis, or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please get help now:
- Anywhere — call your local emergency number.
- International directory — findahelpline.com lists free, confidential helplines in over 100 countries.
- In Singapore — Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) 24-hour hotline 1767, or CareText on WhatsApp 9151 1767. The national mindline 1771 is also available 24 hours, by call or on WhatsApp at +65 6669 1771. For immediate danger, call 995 (ambulance) or 999 (police).
Nothing in the Service — including anything Ren says to you — is a substitute for professional help.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service and able to form a binding contract. If you do not meet this requirement, you may not use the Service.
Your account
You sign in with Google or Apple. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. Notify us promptly at [email protected] of any unauthorised use.
Your content
Your journal entries, photos, audio, and other content are yours. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process, transmit, and display your content solely to operate the Service for you — for example, hosting it on our backend, syncing it to your devices, and, while AI features are on, generating reflections for you.
This licence exists only so we can run the Service. It ends when you delete the content or your account. We do not claim ownership of your content, we do not use it to train AI models, and we do not share it except as described in our Privacy Policy.
AI features
The Service offers AI features, including Ren (an AI companion) and Reflections & Insights. While they are on, some of your content is sent to our AI provider — currently OpenAI — as described in the Privacy Policy.
OpenAI acts as our data processor, under a data processing agreement we have signed with them. That means they may process your content only to provide the Service to us, only on our instructions, and not for their own purposes. They do not use your content to train their models, and we have turned off content logging at the account level, so your content is not stored for their review; they may still retain it briefly to monitor for abuse, in line with their API data-usage policy.
You should understand the following before relying on them:
- AI output can be wrong. Responses are generated by a language model and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, even when they sound confident.
- AI output is not advice. It is not medical, psychological, legal, financial, or professional advice of any kind, and must not be treated as such.
- Do not rely on it for any important decision, and never for a decision about your health or safety.
- AI features are optional, and are off until you turn them on. Nothing you write is sent to an AI provider unless you enable them in Settings; you can turn them off again, or exclude individual entries, at any time. Core journaling does not require them.
Reporting AI content. If Ren produces a response that you find offensive, harmful, or inappropriate, please report it using the in-app reporting option on the message, or email [email protected]. We review reports and use them to improve our safeguards.
Purchases & payments
The Service may offer paid digital items such as prompt packs, passes, and credits. Purchases are made on the web, at app.luminality.ai — our mobile apps do not sell anything in-app; items you buy on the web unlock on your account across your devices.
Prices and any applicable taxes are shown before you confirm a purchase, and you are charged at the time of purchase. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, subject to their terms.
Refunds are governed by our Refund & Billing Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and that policy on the subject of refunds, the Refund & Billing Policy prevails.
Digital items have no cash value, are licensed rather than sold to you, and cannot be transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for money except where required by law.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, decompile, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its underlying systems;
- upload content that infringes others’ rights or violates applicable law;
- use the Service to generate, solicit, or distribute unlawful, abusive, or harmful content, including through our AI features;
- access the Service by automated means, or resell or commercially exploit any part of it, without our written permission.
Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, visuals, prompts, and branding, is owned by Luminality and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or content except to use the Service as intended.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us the right to use them without restriction or obligation to you.
Disclaimers
Luminality is a journaling and reflection tool. It is not a medical, mental-health, or professional service, does not provide diagnosis or treatment, and does not create any clinical, therapeutic, or professional relationship between you and us.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of data loss, and we do not warrant the accuracy of any AI-generated output.
You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you would not want to lose. You can export your data at any time from within the app.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Luminality will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, goodwill, or data, arising from or relating to your use of the Service.
- Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) SGD 100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Luminality harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or content you upload in violation of applicable law or another person's rights.
Suspension & termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time — see Delete Your Account.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, or where necessary for legal, safety, or security reasons. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will give you notice and a chance to export your data before terminating. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund any unused digital items you have paid for.
Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties — including Google, Apple, Stripe, and our AI and hosting providers. Where a provider handles your personal data on our behalf, it does so as our processor under a written agreement, as described in the Privacy Policy. Otherwise, your use of their features may also be subject to their own terms, and we are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
Where you obtain the app through an app store, that store's terms also apply to your download and use, and the store operator is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to provide support for the Service.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where a change is material, we will publish the updated version, revise the effective date, and ask you to review and accept it before you continue using the Service. Changes will not apply retroactively to a dispute that arose before they took effect.
Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also bring proceedings in your place of residence where the law gives you that right, and nothing here deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at [email protected] — most issues can be resolved quickly.
General
- Severability — if any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remain in force.
- No waiver — our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment — you may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
- Entire agreement — these Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Refund & Billing Policy, are the entire agreement between us regarding the Service.
- Force majeure — we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
